What is "virgin vinyl" and why does it matter?
In North America, a "virgin vinyl" is what you're referring to when you're describing the softer non-praised brand of rubber mats you might have in your car. Instead of being made with a blend of different materials, the ones being made in North America have usually been stamped with only one material. By doing so, the rubber can be softened at the top and can then go on a belt with a heating element. As the rubber gets heated and starts to melt, it's drawn off and you've got a thicker film of rubber over the top of the pad. This means that it'll be comfortable and won't sink into the carpet. What's great about virgin vinyl is that it's so durable and won't wear away in a few years. The vinyl is also very lightweight and soft, so it doesn't add a lot of extra weight to your car.
